Pottery Students may select from either wheel or handbuilding classes for all skill levels. Chastain offers the following firing options: high fire in a gas fired reduction kiln, low fire oxidation, raku kiln and Sagger. Unique surface decorations are available including terra sigillata, underglazes, stains, engobes, and other low fire commercial glazes.

PLEASE NOTE:
- Pottery students will be issued one bag of clay the first day of class. If clay is not claimed during the current semester, it cannot be claimed during a later semester.
- Students are responsible for purchasing tools for ceramics.
- Only clay purchased through the center and glazes provided by the Center will be fired.
- A $10 materials fee is included in the class fee for consumable supplies provided by the Center.

POTTERY ON THE WHEEL
Students will examine an array of wheel-thrown pottery techniques. The focus is on basic throwing skills as well as glazing, decorating, and firing. Bring pottery tools and a towel or apron to use in class.

OPEN STUDIO CLAY
Open studio is for previous Chastain Arts Center students who will work independently. Registration must be approved by the Ceramics Director. Students may work when space is available and no class is meeting. Fee for open studio does NOT include any clay. Open Studio ends 30 minutes prior to Center closing. HANDBUILDING / SCULPTURE

This class will explore beginning to intermediate handbuilding techniques. Weekly projects will be demonstrated, however, students are free to develop individual projects.

HANDBUILDING/ Joanna Stecker
Learn about the infinite possibilities in clay. In class we will explore both functional and sculptural forms through different techniques of handbuilding. We will also examine the various options for surface texture and color. Students can either work on the suggested project, or use these techniques to create their own project.

HANDBUILDING/ Susie Winton
These classes will address basic methods of construction for both functional and non-functional work as well as possibilities for color, texture, and imagery. Students may choose to work with suggested projects or may prefer to develop their ideas individually.

CONCRETE LEAF GARDEN ART WORKSHOP/ Robin Pollack
In this 2-day workshop, students will sand-cast leaves from their gardens in concrete for a functional piece of garden art. On day one students will create the concrete leaf and on day two the leaves will be painted and stained or sealed. Please bring 2-3 leaves (no more than 12" long) like elephant ear, hosta, fig, et cetera. A materials fee of approximately $10 is payable to the instructor on the first day. A supply list is available in the main office and on the website.
