The Office of Cultural Affairs Public Art Program (OCA/PAP) makes education and outreach a cornerstone in programming to a diverse audience. By engaging artists, arts advocates, citizens and visitors in opportunities where they can experience artwork created for public space, OCA/PAP provides resources that broaden the appreciation and understanding of public art. Through our workshops, presentations, website, and publications, OCA/PAP exposes and enriches the public art environment in Atlanta. Whether it’s a bicycle tour, training for artists, a dedication or public seminar, our practice of engaging community members has proven to be a successful way to educate our citizens about public art in Atlanta.
Through OCA/PAP’s seminars, panels and workshops our artists learn and master the challenging world of public art from leaders in the field. Opportunities are afforded to art selection committees to interface with and learn from architects, administrators and government officials. Youth are trained by artist to create large scale artwork from concept to finish. And, visitors to our city are provided opportunities to engage with the rich artistic heritage of Atlanta.
Education and outreach are critical to the success of Atlanta’s Public Art Program and supports an informed community.
