The Trilon Restoration
In August, The Trilon sculpture at 15th and Peachtree Street, was fully restored; including the fountain which is currently back in operation. The sculpture was created by local artist Steffen Thomas in 1966, an was cat in concrete and displayed near Stone Mountain, Georgia.
In 1975, the artwork was clad in copper and installed in the middle of a circular fountain near Colony Square/ Woodruff Arts Center. Over the many decades use, extreme weather conditions and other environmental factors have caused damage of the work. A major leak also required attention. In 2014, the OCA prioritized treatment of this sculpture and consulted with the Steffen Thomas Museum, as well as our strategic partners, Norfolk Southern, to plan the restoration. The City of Atlanta office of Parks fixed the waterworks of the fountain.
The Trilon restoration was made possible by the generous support of Norfolk Southern. The total investment to complete this project was $13,084.00. The site also has a large surrounding patio and garden for the local Midtown community.
