Hard Days Work Shack
Beverly Buchanan
1988
Painted corrugated tin
Beverly Buchanan’s work has a strong focus on remembering the look and feel of structures. The house and its yard are often the subject of her work. Buchanan continues to develop the idea of memory versus reality. Buchanan sees the sharecropper’s shack, a disappearing fixture in the rural southern landscape, as an enduring image of vitality and creativity that is animated by the hopes and dreams of its inhabitants.
