Arts & Economic Prosperity V
The City of Atlanta has received our customized Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 (AEP5) report from Americans for the Arts. The City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs facilitated the City of Atlanta’s participation in a national assessment of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry in the city of Atlanta. We are pleased to release findings that prove the nonprofit arts and culture industry is a big business in the city of Atlanta.
Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 provides evidence that the nonprofit arts and culture sector is a significant industry in the City of Atlanta—one that generates $604.6 million in total economic activity. This spending—$371.9 million by nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and an additional $232.7 million in event-related spending by their audiences—supports 19,392 full-time equivalent jobs, generates $478.1 million in household income to local residents, and delivers $54.4 million in local and state government revenue. This economic impact study sends a strong signal that when we support the arts, we not only enhance our quality of life, but we also invest in the City of Atlanta’s economic well-being. To broaden the scope of the study, the Fulton County Department of Arts & Culture, the Atlanta Regional Commission, and The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, were asked to join AEP5 by this office. In partnership, we gathered data on the entire Metropolitan Atlanta Region, as well as our own entities. The data collected from nonprofit arts and cultural organizations supports the case for increased public and private sector arts funding in our region and generates significant statewide and local visibility for our cultural industry.
